Why God Can't Heal What you Hide!
CONFESSION AND REPENTENCE
By Minister Sonnie Robinson (June, 2025)
Life’s a journey, isn’t it? And on that journey, we all stumble. We take wrong turns, trip over the same struggles, or just drift off course. But here’s the beautiful part: no matter how far we wander, God is always inviting us back. Confession and repentance aren’t heavy, guilt-laden duties—they’re gifts. They’re how we breathe in grace and walk into a fresh start with God. Let’s take a closer look at what these practices really mean and how they bring us closer to the heart of the Father.
Think of confession as being honest with God. It’s simply admitting when we’ve messed up—where we’ve fallen short, missed the mark, or tried to do things our own way. But it’s not about shame. It’s about stepping into the light and saying, “God, I need You.” The Bible promises in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” That’s not just forgiveness—it’s a fresh start.
Then comes repentance. If confession is opening the door, repentance is walking through it. It’s more than saying “I’m sorry”—it’s turning around. It’s choosing to leave behind what pulls us away from God and walk toward what brings us closer to Him. Acts 3:19 puts it beautifully: “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”
So, how do we actually confess and repent? It’s not complicated—and it’s not meant to be. Here are some simple, powerful ways you can walk in confession and repentance:
And, what happens when we do confess and repent? We reconnect with God. We find peace and freedom. We grow, heal, and move forward with new strength. Our relationships deepen. Our lives overflow with hope.
If you’re feeling far from God or weighed down, you don’t have to stay there. He’s already reaching out to you with love and grace. Today can be your fresh start. Confession admits your need. Repentance embraces God’s transformation.
