Spiritual growth Part 3

Hindrances to Spiritual Growth

By Minister Sonnie Robinson (October 2025)

Did you know that even mature believers can drift without realizing it? Many leaders plateau not because of rebellion, but due to misguided beliefs, busyness, or unaddressed issues.

So, What Can Hinder Spiritual Growth?

Unconfessed Sin – Psalm 32:3–5 “When I kept silent, my bones wasted away…”  Sin stalls growth and hardens hearts. Leaders must walk in ongoing repentance.

Neglect of Spiritual Habits – Matthew 4:4 “Man shall not live by bread alone…” We can’t grow if we’re not feeding on the Word.  Leaders often feed others but forget to feed themselves.

Isolation and Lack of Accountability – Hebrews 10:24 25 “Spur one another on…” Without community, growth is stunted. Too many leaders live unquestioned lives and become spiritually untouchable.

Comparison and Performance Pressure – Galatians 6:4–5 “Each one should test their own actions…” Spiritual growth is not a competition. Comparing ourselves to others leads to pride or despair — both kill growth.

Ultimately, spiritual growth slows not because God stops working, but because we stop yielding.  True maturity comes from staying open, honest, and hungry.

The END of the series: Part 4 is coming in November.
